Anime:
At the moment my biggest anime obsession would have to be Bleach. i saw a few subbed episodes at Club Otaku and had to see more so i started downloading from bleachtv and after 18 episodes i loved it more than any other anime i'd ever seen.
The biggest anime disappointment would be Flame of Recca. i still love the FoR anime, but i expected so much more from it. the characters were frequently changing colors and almost always looked like they were drawn by amateurs. The worst thing about it was that it changed a lot of the stuff from the manga, not to mention that the anime only covers up to volume 16 of the manga.
Manga:
My biggest manga obsession is Flame of Recca (i'd be shocked if you didn't know that by now it all started at Club Otaku. i read the viz manga catalog (February - June 2005) about newest releases and i read what each manga was about. I then read the summary for FoR volume 11 and 12. as soon as i saw the words "dragon" and "ninja," i wanted to check it out.
this is what the mag said:
I started getting the manga from the library and was hooked after volume 6. i got fed up with the waiting list and loved it so much i started collecting them. it's a miracle i caught up when there were 12 volumes out at the time!
The biggest manga disappointment would be MAR. I still like it and all, but i just expected more from it since it was done by Anzai (same guy that did FoR). I have collected up to volume 11 (there are 12 out now) but it takes time for me to get into each volume and when i finish reading it's just, meh. unlike when i read a new volume of FoR. as i read each volume i get pulled in right away and feel anxious while reading because i want to know what happens next. once i finish each new volume i get mad because of those stupid cliffhangers! (if you ever read the manga be prepared for those damn things.) and they only get worse once the foreshadowing comes in. like the new volume i just finished reading today (FoR 23, passing over MAR 12 was easy) i've heard that a main cast member dies later on, and then i read this, all that stupid foreshadowing, it makes me worry for my two favorite characters. of all the main cast they have to hint at something bad happening to Fuuko and Kaoru. this is what it says about Kaoru after he tells his friends that he's going to fight alongside recca against Mori's army. Even Recca told them that this time their chances of survival were slim:
and there were two for Fuuko:
at least Fuko has found the wind sphere so fujin is at full power.
and then it ends right after Recca finds out the truth about Resshin (the leader of the Hachiryu that threatened to kill him if he ever lost a single fight).
*cries* now i have to wait until august to find out what happens next! *must resist downloading scanlations*
um... yeah, back to why i'm disappointed in MAR... i just don't feel a connection to the characters like i do in FoR. if the next few volumes of MAR don't change that i'll stop collecting and sell volumes 1-whatever i'll stop at. though i do like Alviss and Dorothy. they're the only ones i kind of feel a connection with.
so there you go, those are mine, what is your biggest obsession and biggest disappointment in anime/manga and why? maybe even say how you got interested in that series. you don't need to go on like i did, only if you want to.

Becoming a ninja is just a childhood dream for sixteen-year-old Recca, until a fateful encounter reveals he has inherited ninja powers, including the ability to wield fire! As Recca learns to master the ancient ways of his ancestors, he swears to protect a mysterious girl named Yanagi from forces bent on possessing her extraordinary healing powers...
Having reached the semifinals, Recca's Team Hokage must find a way to defeat "The Invincible One," a wily opponent who has trapped Fuko in another dimension and conjured up an illusion to battle the unsuspecting Domon! Meanwhile, the stakes grow higher with the return of an arch-nemesis and a supreme sacrifice made by a trusted friend!
-- about vol 12:
The final round of the assassins' tournament has begun! With opponents like a warrior impervious to pain and a hooded swordsman with a fearsome slice, Recca's Team Hokage has its hands full--especially Recca, who is forced to fight his own dragons!

Fuko Kirisawa has greatly increased her strength. Little does she suspect what bitter consequences will come of it.
